Wedding in Richmond -relaxed and fun, in Richmond Park

Wedding in Richmond

Last week saw the lovely wedding in Richmond of a very friendly couple in the beautiful setting of Pembroke Lodge. The photography possibilities are endless.

Pembroke Lodge, the home of 19th-century British Prime Minister LordJohn Russell and his grandson, the philosopher Bertrand Russell. Richmond Park includes many buildings of architectural or historic interest. The Grade I-listed White Lodge was formerly a royal residence and is now home to the Royal Ballet School. The park’s boundary walls and ten other buildings are listed at Grade II.

The building is of historical interest, having been the residence of the British Prime Minister Lord John (later, Earl) Russell and the childhood home of his grandson, the philosopher Bertrand Russell. It was also the regimental headquarters of the Phantom Squad during the Second World War. It is owned by the Crown Estate and is currently privately run as a catering facility and a conference and wedding venue on a long lease from The Royal Parks. It also houses a heritage charity, The Hearsum Collection.

Interesting talk and wedding photography

February 21, 2014

I look forward to discovering even more venues for wedding photography for this year. I’ve just been to a very interesting talk about exciting businesses. I found it very encouraging to meet the owner of the group, Matt Kendall and to hear from speakers such as Natasha Godbold. Natahasha is excited about all things London and lets people know of her favourite venues, people and fashions of the moment.

Natasha says ‘My bold fashion sense and confidence helped me gain access to some of the best parties around town.Quickly I was mingling within the London Celebrity circuit,and wow I saw some things which never made it into the papers. ‘

With Lucy Whittington as well, it was such an informative evening. The three speakers and other attendees were buzzing afterwards and the friendly group finished the night by inviting us to a cosy local pub for a well- earned drink.

Tips on Finding a Wedding Photographer

August 13, 2013

I’ve talked of this many times and would like to offer further tips on finding a wedding photographer. In my area of Twickenham and Richmond there are some beautiful venues and areas to photograph so make sure you get an experienced photographer.

Do Your Research

Start your search by reading reviews from recent brides and browsing hundreds of local listings. Carefully review potential photographers’ websites and blogs to check out photos of other weddings they’ve shot, which will give you an idea of their style. The design of the website may also give you clues about the photographer’s personality and sensibility. Check out their Facebook and Twitter pages too, if possible — is the feedback from clients good? How does the photographer respond?

tips on finding a wedding photographer

Meet Various Photographers

This is not a decision that can be made on looks alone — you must meet your potential photographers in person. If you like what you see on their sites — and their fees are in your ballpark range — call to see if they’re available for your wedding date. If the photographer is already booked on your date, you may want to see if they have an associate or can recommend another shooter with a similar style. Set up in-person meetings with three to five potential photographers who are available on your wedding date to look at more of their work and assess whether your personalities mesh. Be prepared to talk about your venue, your wedding style and what you envision for your photos.

Look Carefully at their Work

When reviewing a photographer’s album, look for the key moments you want captured: Did they get photos of both the bride and the groom when they locked eyes for the first time? Also look for crispness of images, thoughtful compositions (does a shot look good the way it was framed, or is there too much clutter in the frame?) and good lighting (beware of washed-out pictures where small details are blurred — unless that’s the style you’re after). It’s also very important that you detect sensitivity in capturing people’s emotions; make sure the photographer’s subjects look relaxed, not like deer caught in headlights. While you two are, of course, important, you want to see smiling shots of your friends too.

This is an interesting quote from WantThat Wedding;

‘Morning lovelies! I have a serious addiction. A full on obsession, and I’m sure you’re probably suffering from the same beautiful plight! Pinterest-initous. Sufferers are known to spend hours ‘pinning’ beautiful images to their virtual mood boards and can often be found pining {and re-pinning} highly sought after images. Yes, I’m talking about pinterest. God love it. It’s such a fantastic resource for planning your wedding and I love pinning everything.  It can be a tad frustrating however when you ‘pin’ something gorgeous yet you’ve no idea how to recreate said beauty!

Profile Pictures; how to look better in pictures

May 21, 2013

If you are involved with any social network sites at all then you would of put your profile pictures online. But is it really doing you justice? Whether its for dating or employment or just for chats, your picture is the first thing that captures the eye.

I found this good article from  http://analoguechic.com that offers some good advice. Take a look at these perfectly good looking people that have posted their pictures on professional sites. They do NOT look comfortable or attractive.

Profile pictures

Your online profile photo is worth a thousand words. Think about it. It could be the deal maker (or breaker) for a full time job, a freelance gig, or a wealthy wife or husband!  I will now attempt to explain how to take your profile photo from “floating head” or “mug shot” to a money-making headshot.  I’m going to spotlight this particular group of people first, because they are professionals and they should know better. They’re all professional bloggers and social media marketing demi-gods.

I’m sure you all have Facebook friends, Tweeps, and other contacts on the interwebs whose profile photos make you cringe. Here are a couple of my faves:

Example Profile Pictures- 1

First, we have a webcam shot, complete with blue glow and lack of eye contact between the subject and the viewer (to clarify photospeak: the subject is the person in the picture; the viewer is the person looking at the picture). And about 75% of the picture consists of the walls and ceiling behind the subject.

If you want to take the stress out of having a good Portrait Photograph taken you really should speak with London Photographer David Stubbs. My experience in taking profile pictures ensures a smooth and happy service, giving you exactly what you want. Call me for an informal, get to know you chat on 07976 237 673 today. Why 90% of men don’t get any responses on dating sites. London professional photographers

May 20, 2013

These are wise words from LookbetterOnline;

“Most men who sign up to dating sites wind up flushing the money they were charged for membership right down the toilet. That sounds harsh, but life is sometimes harsh. Our “high level” contacts in the online dating industry have spent, perhaps, millions of dollars over the years trying to get to the bottom of the issue. It turns out to be fairly simple and boils down to just two fundamental failures on the part of men. (Incidentally, this advice is not only for men, but we’ll cover the dynamics behind the cause of online dating failures for women in a separate post). A good start is to contact london professional photographers.

Both reasons for the failure have a deeper “root” cause we should talk about first. It will come as no surprise when I mention it because it is the root cause of oh-so-many things that don’t work out well for us. The root cause for failure to get attention online is simply not taking this online dating business seriously and making a half-assed attempt at it. Notice that I did not say that the root cause was that the men who don’t have success online were somewhere on the left of “3″ on the physical beauty side of the universal beauty scale. It has nothing to do with that because there are as many “2′s” out there looking for “2′s” as there are “10′s” looking for “10′s”.

So the root cause is approaching the challenge of dating online like a flake. In the online dating world, being a flake manifests itself in two major ways:

1) Creating a too brief, or crappy, or silly, or just poorly written profile ( or worse, not writing a profile at all), and;

2) Not having a good photo (or almost-all-the-time-worse, having a crappy, silly, or poorly done photo)

Fail with either of them, and no matter what screen name you choose, women who view your profile (either on searches or in response to your first email) will append the prefix (or suffix, depending where it fits best grammatically…) “FLAKE” to your name and move on.  This is not hypothetical. That is precisely what they will do — each and every one of them each and every time.

And because you won’t want to blame yourself for the failure, you’ll blame the site, you’ll blame the women you wrote to, you’ll blame your brother for talking you into joining the site to begin with; you’ll blame  anyone else but yourself for taking a flake’s, half-assed approach to an effort that takes some thought, money and work to work and to not come off like flake. Does that sound harsh? Did I say life was harsh sometimes? Has anyone else told you this stuff before? No? They just let you stumble along with no results? Now that’s harsh!

To fix the first manifestation, spend some time really working on your written profile. If you don’t know how to write a good and compelling profile, hire someone to help you write it. There are many dating coaches and profile writers out there just waiting for your call or email.

To fix the second issue, ahem, schedule a photo shoot with us. It’s the absolute easiest way to get great online dating photos and is best money you’ll ever spend. That sounds like an exaggeration, I know, but those thousands of people who have, and who’ve then had great success finding a date, or perhaps something more serious, might just agree with me.

If you are investing time and money in an attractive and well thought through profile, don’t cut corners by having an unflattering photograph. Use;

What do you look for when choosing a wedding photographer

May 14, 2013

Wedding couples are bombarded with different advice on what to look for in a wedding photographer so I’ve complied a few more thoughts on the matter. I’ve taken wedding photographs for nearly 20 years now , covering hundreds of weddings, so I know what works and what doesn’t.

wedding photographer

The most important point to remember when choosing a choosing a wedding photographer

I found this well written article in You and Your Wedding;

“If you’re tempted to let your groom’s best mate photograph the wedding because he thinks he’s the next David Bailey, think again. While your budget might thank you for it, gambling with your only tangible memories of the most important day of your life isn’t advisable. Finding a professional wedding photographer with a good track record and a great approach who is an expert with lighting and composition – and who’ll take the best pictures possible on this once-in-a-lifetime day – is something you should research carefully. Remember, if you’re not happy with your wedding pictures it will be hard (although not impossible) to recreate them…”

Ask yourself what style you would like

Think about the style of photographs you want. Whether you’re after traditional posed pictures or a fluid, reportage style, you want to ensure the person you choose is professional, proficient and perfect for you. You can find photographers through personal recommendations, wedding fairs, and wedding venues. I’m a recommended photographer for Richmond Registry Office and Orleans House for instance. I have taken many stylish weddings at The Bingham, The Richmond Hill Hotel and The Richmond Gate. These are just fantastic venues as the spectacular views from Richmond Hill are just minutes away.
